Pop open the bubbly! California okays same sex marriage

So. It's not ok to write a childrens book about a pair of lovable gay penguins - but it is now finally ok for gays and lesbians to marry in the State of California. Much to the disgust of the Terminator and much to the delight of practically everyone else, as of today same sex marriages in California are legal - the second state after Massachusetts to do so.

"Today the California Supreme Court took a giant leap to ensure that everybody - not just in the state of California, but throughout the country - will have equal treatment under the law," said City Attorney Dennis Herrer (CNN). We'll drink to that.

And now for some speculation about which rather fabulous gay and lesbo VIP couples will tie the knot. First out of the blocks, Ellen Degeneres and Portia Di Rossi. Ellen announced the big news on her show the other day - and her Madgesty has already beamed over her blessing - via video link up of course. (The preferred way for celebs to gush lyrical without having to do it face to face).

Cynthia Nixon has already announced her intention to get a ring on girlfriend of four years finger Christine Marinoni - and now it's legal, might well do so. And if Lindsay Lohan stops pinching and starts behaving like a nice girl - you never know, Sam Ronson might even pop the big one. All hail the free world.

Mayor of San Diego endorses gay marriages - tissues out, it's tear jerker.
