Different schools vary in their admission requirements and it is up to authorities and experts to decide whether a child is ready to start kindergarten. You can do your own assessment to check if, indeed, your kids are ready to start formal education or graduate from just playing to learning things.

Sign no. 1 - Ability to follow directions.

One of the ways you will know when your child is ready for formal school is to determine if he/she can actually follow directions. Of course, it should not be something complicated, but the ability to listen and follow directions from an authority is a vital clue your kid is actually ready for school.

Sign no. 3 - Interest in learning

Your child does not need to be able to write the alphabet or read, but they should also be able to recognise some letters or numbers. An interest in learning is also essential and is an indication they are ready for school.

Even adults are fidgety so don't expect a 5 or 6 year old to sit still for hours on end. However, they should be able to sit long enough to get through an activity or participate in one.
