No Top Job for Galliano
When Kate Moss glided down the aisle wearing a dress designed by long-term friend and internationally renowned ‘Most Controversial Designer of 2011’, it seemed to give the world one clear message: Galliano will rise again. So when Ex Mr Dior was spotted chatting to Top Shop’s Sir Philip Green at the bride’s party, the rumour-mill went into overdrive, mainly thanks to the excitable hacks at Vogue towers.
It appears, though, that we all got a little bit carried away because Sir Phil has officially denied the rumours in no uncertain terms, telling UK Vogue ‘I saw John Galliano at Kate's wedding last Friday. I did not discuss any business with him then, nor have I since.’ Top Shop’s official Twitter even posted a message saying ‘It’s incredible how rumors get started!’
Galliano stood trial in June for his alleged anti semitic remarks, with the verdict due in September. Until then we suspect he’ll be aiming to keep a low profile but we have a funny feeling that with his loyal fan base of influential a-listers, it might not be too long before he returns from fashion purgatory. And we don’t mean a check-out job at Harvey Nicks.
