Introduction to laser liposuction
Laser liposuction is a cosmetic procedure designed to remove fat from the body through the use of laser beams. Essentially, it is a weight loss procedure targetting excess fat which is unnecessary. However, there is a lot of debate on whether this method is safe and effective for those who want to eliminate flabs on certain areas of the body.
How it is done
Excessive fat in the body is not only unhealthy, but also aesthetically unpleasant to look at. If you are contemplating laser liposuction, you should be aware of the following facts:
- - Advantages
Lasers are used to liquefy or melt fat before it is drawn out of the body by vacuuming it through a liposuction. In addition, laser beams may actually stimulate elastin and collagen production. As you probably remember, these help in contributing to a firmer and tighter skin for eventually a smooth-looking appearance of the skin. Another touted benefit of laser liposuction is less bruising occurs because the laser beams thickens the small blood vessels.
Based on test results on experiments between groups of patients who had done the traditional liposuction and those who underwent laser liposuction, the latter method had better results in terms of elasticity. Skin was firmer and smoother compared to those who underwent liposuction.
- - Disadvantages
Over time, the skin loses its elasticity which explains why laser liposuction or liposuction might be the right way to improve tightening of the skin. However, if a patient is too old, then cells do not have the capacity to produce elastin and collagen. In addition, there is the risk of contracting burns form the procedure, that is, when skin is tightened too much causing the skin to contract resulting to burns.
Another identified disadvantage is the cost which on average is roughly £2,300 per area. Hence, laser liposuction costs more than liposuction which critics say only add to the cost of cosmetic surgery in general. The NHS estimates the cost of liposuction at £2,000.
Clearly, laser liposuction is not for everyone such as very old patients. It has its drawbacks, but when done properly by a competent surgeon, the procedure can improve appearance of the skin and can be an effective weight loss method. Like any other procedure, it has risks which you should be aware of.
