Healthy and tasty summer fruit to beat the heat

Brightly colored, refreshening and sweet, summer fruit not only gratifies our palate, it is thirst quenching on a hot summer day.

During summer there is a rich and varied choice of healthy and tasty fruits, from melons, peaches, cherries to apricots, and all contain large amounts of nutrients and vitamins that will not only improve your general health, they will also make you look naturally better.

When it’s very hot we have the tendency to become more dehydrated and lose a larger amount of nutrients and vitamins than during the winter months.

These precious nutrients have to be reintegrated, and eating fresh fruit is the most natural way of doing it and with far less calories than any processed food.

Orange and yellow fruits, like peaches, apricots and melons contain beta-carotene, zeaxanthin, flavonoids, lycopene, potassium, and vitamin C.

These nutrients help lower LDL cholesterol and blood pressure, promote collagen formation and healthy joints, and fight harmful free radicals. Beta-carotene also protects our skin from the harmful rays of the sun and gives it a natural golden color.

Cherries are rich in calcium, phosphorus and vitamin C and contains fibers that will help stop the munchies and it also works as a antispasmodic and as a natural antiseptic and cherries contain very few calories.

Watermelons are the great source of much-needed water and electrolytes to beat the summer temperatures. Low in calories, it is an excellent source of Vitamin-A, which is a powerful natural anti-oxidant.

Watermelons also contain flavonoids like lycopene, beta-carotene, lutein, zeaxanthin and cryptoxanthin that help protect cells from free radicals, and lycopene offers protection from harmful UV rays.

Plums come in a variety of colors; purple, yellow as well as red, and are a wonderful supply of numerous nutrients and vitamins and contain dietary fibers that help regulate the functioning of the digestive system and are plentiful in minerals like potassium, fluoride and iron and it also contains vitamin K.
