Bras are useless says French study
Lingerie manufacturers will no doubt will go on the warpath when they read this new study on bras, and women who have spent countless pounds on all types of bras or have very large breasts or who train, will probably not agree at all the results that a French study has revealed: that bras do not support breasts, do not reduce back pain and they can actually cause more sagging and that “bras are a false necessity”.
Professor Jean-Denis Rouillon, a French sports science expert, carried out a 15-year study at the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire (University Hospital) in Besançon on the breasts of 330 women between the ages of 18 and 35 concluded that "medically, physiologically, anatomically - breasts gain no benefit from being denied gravity. On the contrary, they get saggier with a bra," said the professor to France Info radio.
The boob doctor also claimed that “supporting tissues will not grow and even they will wither and the breast will gradually degrade”.
This French professor has been carrying out this experiment since 1997, with the help of a slide rule and caliper measuring changes in the orientation of the breasts examining breasts to study the effects of living without the support of a bra and found that going sans bra the “nipples lifted on average seven millimetres in one year in relation to the shoulders."
Before going out an burning your bras, Prof Rouillon however warned that : “It would be dangerous to advise all women to stop wearing their bras as the women involved were not a representative sample of the population and stopping now there would be not benefit.”
One of the test subjects, a 28-year old women named Capucine declared that she had ‘multiple benefits by not wearing a bra for the last two years, 'There are multiple benefits: I breathe more easily, I carry myself better, and I have less back pain.'
