Best hair colours for olive skin types
Are you unhappy with your hair colour, or do you need a a radical change? First step to take in this case is to establish your skin tone: in order to do so, consider how easily you tan or burn in the sun, what's the natural colour of your hair and brows, what the colour of your skin appears to be when freshly cleaned and flooded with just natural light.
Olive skin is a shade or two darker than fair skin, it normally tans beautifully and indeed is almost always accompanied by a beautiful healthy sun-kissed glow.
It is also useful to determine whether your skin tone is cool or warm: check the veins on your wrists, if they appear blue your tone is warm with golden/yellow undertones, is they are green your tone is cool with pink undertones.
As a general rule, dark hair colours suit olive skin tones best: black, dark brown, medium brown, darker blonde hair shades and dark reds are all potential good hair colours for you. Remember that for the most flattering result it is better to stay within 2 shades darker or lighter than your natural hair colour.
A true olive skin colour is actually naturally cool in tone, therefore choosing a cool hair colour will bring out the best features of your complexion. Best shades would be, amongst the blondes: honey blondes, strawberry blondes, ash blondes and platinum blondes. For the brunettes: choose shades of blue blacks or hash browns. For red shades: pick violet colours, burgundies, dark copper colours.
If your olive skin is warm with golden, yellow undertones, choose a warm hair colour that will enhance it: golden blondes, golden browns, mocha browns, chestnuts, auburn and caramel colors, or red blondes and light copper.
Lastly, some hair colours are neutral, which means they will suit both warm and cool olive complexions: dark blondes and beige blonde tones, dark reds, black, all shades of brown.
